PM Narendra Modi pays tribute to legendary Lata Mangeshkar on 93rd birth anniversary, renaming of Chowk in Ayodhya

Today is the 93rd birth anniversary of late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Marking this special occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to her.

New Delhi: Today is the 93rd birth anniversary of late legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar. Marking this special occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid a heartfelt tribute to her.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “Remembering Lata Didi on her birth anniversary. There is so much that I recall…the innumerable interactions in which she would shower so much affection. I am glad that today, a Chowk in Ayodhya will be named after her. It is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest Indian icons .”

PM Modi said,’This is a tribute to one of the greatest Indian icons.’ UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had decided to name the Chowk in Ayodhya after the Bharat Ratna award. Lata Mangeshkar died on 6 February due to multiple organ failure. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk in Ayodhya on Monday, on the occasion of the late singer’s 93rd birth anniversary, in the presence of some of his family members.

Union minister Prahlad Joshi said that Lata Mangeshkar’s “legacy and contribution to Indian cinema music is unparalleled”. I fondly remember Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Ji on her birth anniversary. Through her beautiful and melodious songs, she continues to stay with us. Her legacy and contribution to Indian cinema music is unparalleled. My pranams to her,” he wrote.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar wrote on Twitter: “Lata Didi has mesmerized her fans for many decades with her melodious vocals. With his voice, he brought Indian music across seven seas. Lata Didi’s voice will forever be etched in the hearts of every Indian. Greetings to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary!”

Union minister Kiren Rijiju said, “Fondly remembering Bharat Ratna #LataMangeshkar on her 93rd Jayanti. Lata ji left us but her divinely golden voice remains with us forever.”

Before the birth anniversary of Lata Mangeshkar, a 40 feet tall and 12 meter high Veena idol weighing 14 tons has been installed at the crossroads in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. It is created by Padma Shri awardee Ram Sutar. The intersection will now be known as ‘Lata Mangeshkar Chauraha’, which is situated on the banks of river Saryu and has been built at a cost of Rs 7.9 crore.

Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar started her career in 1942 at the age of 13. In a career spanning seven decades, Raag Rani recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films. He recorded his songs in more than 36 regional Indian and foreign languages. She is known as ‘Queen of Melody’ and ‘Nightingale of India’.
