New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government of the alliance of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) in Tripura on March 8. A senior official gave this information on Saturday. In the recently concluded Tripura assembly elections, BJP won 32 seats out of 60, while its ally IPFT won one seat.

A senior police officer told media, “Chief Secretary S. K. Sinha is meeting with senior officials. A team of SPG is also coming today. The Prime Minister is coming to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new government on March 8.” Out of 60 assembly seats, BJP has won 32 seats. At the same time, his association IPFT won one seat.

At the same time, Chief Minister Manik Saha submitted his resignation last Friday. Talking to reporters, he said that the new government will take oath on March 8 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the event. The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will be held at Vivekananda Maidan. Chief Ministers and senior leaders of BJP-ruled states will be invited to the swearing-in ceremony. The Left Front termed the results of the Tripura assembly elections as ‘unexpected’, claiming that the division of votes among the opposition parties to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) helped the BJP win the election despite getting fewer seats.

In Tripura, the BJP-IPFT alliance has returned to power for the second time in a row by winning 33 seats in the 60-member assembly. Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s Tipra Magha Party won 13 seats, while the Left-Congress alliance won 14 seats. Debbarma’s party made a dent in the Left Party’s vote in the tribal areas. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) performed extremely poorly. TMC had fielded candidates in 28 seats but did not get success anywhere. TMC’s vote percentage (0.88 percent) was even lower.
