PMLA Case: ED attaches 7 properties of Gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said it has attached seven immovable properties of mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari as part of a money laundering probe against him and his family.

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said it has attached seven immovable properties of mafia-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari as part of a money laundering probe against him and his family.

The value of temporarily attached properties under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) is Rs 1.48 crore (registry value), while their circle rate at the time of registry was Rs 3.42 crore, the federal agency said in a statement.

Ansari, a former five-time MLA, is currently lodged in a jail in Banda, Uttar Pradesh. 59-year-old Ansari was questioned by the ED in this case last year.

In August, the agency had raided the official residence of Ansari’s elder brother and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Afzal Ansari in Delhi and at some places in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district.
