The man was sentenced by the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (Pocso) court, and he will be sentenced three more years in prison if he does not pay the money. This is the maximum punishment term awarded to an accused in a Pocso case in the district.

Anandan P. R., also known as Babu, will have to remain behind the bar for 60 years. He was charged on March 20, 2021, by the Tiruvalla Police with raping a 10-year-old girl between 2019 and 2021 and sexually abusing her throughout those two years. Babu was a relative and used to stay in the same house with the child’s parents.

According to the Pathanamthitta District Police, “The witness testimony, medical records, and other evidence were strongly in favour of the prosecution in the case where principal Pocso prosecutor advocate Jason Mathews represented the prosecution. Tiruvalla police inspector Harilal registered the case, carried out the investigation, and submitted the charge sheet to the court.”
