Kanpur: The anger over the remarks given by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and Delhi media cell chief Naveen Kumar Jindal hasn’t appeared to die down as several nations have criticised the comments and Indian diplomats were summoned in these nations.
Kanpur police have arrested another BJP leader in the city for insulting tweets against Prophet Mohammad (PBUH); days after brawls took place in the city over the comments made by Nupur Sharma. Although the tweet has been deleted right now.
The guilty party is Harshit Srivastava, who is a member of the BJP’s Youth Wing as well as of the student council.
His posts were offensive. “Police became active and took action, registering a case under related sections, and he was arrested,” said Vijay Singh Meena, Kanpur’s top cop.
“The government’s policy is very clear.” “If anyone tries to play a communal card or tries to disturb social harmony, impartial and stern action will be taken against the culprits,” he added.
The BJP government has been facing an international backlash since the comments made by some of its party leaders on the Prophet. Harshit Srivastava’s derogatory comments further added fuel to the fire. The external affairs ministry has been trying to calm down the matter anyway, calling the comments “views of the fringe”.
