There have been a number of attacks on the homes and workplaces of BJP and Hindu Munnani cadres in Coimbatore recently. Four unidentified miscreants also vandalised a Hindu Munnani youth wing leader’s Tata Indica car in Mettupalayam.

Police filed an FIR after receiving information, and five teams were created to examine CCTV footage and nab the suspects involved in the crime. Police detained two people after gathering evidence from CCTV, and it turned out that one of the miscreants was also a Hindu Munnani member.

Coimbatore Superintendent of Police V Badrinarayanan said, “We have nabbed two people and have remanded them. The two accused were identified as Tamilselvan (24) and Hariharan (25).

He further said, “The main motive behind this was an issue that arose between Tamilselvan and Harish over who would keep the Ganapathi idol in the area. Harish won in the issue, and the Ganesha idol was kept by him in the area. This led to personal enmity, and thus this attack was carried out.” “Tamilselvan is also a part of the Hindu Munnani.”
