Ranchi: Jharkhand police have detained the 2019 batch IAS officer from Khunti district for his alleged involvement in the sexual harassment of a trainee engineering student, police said on Tuesday.
Police took the officer into custody on Monday night after the case was lodged at the Khunti women’s police station, Superintendent of Police Aman Kumar said.
A case has been filed under IPC sections 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), he said.
Eight engineering students from other states, including the victim, were in Khunti for the training, Mr Kumar said.
All the trainees and several other guests attended a dinner hosted at the residence of the Deputy Development Commissioner on Saturday.
At the party, the IAS officer found the female engineer trainee alone and tried to exploit her sexually, she told the police in her statement.
The truth was revealed after the officers and some guests who attended the party were questioned, the SP said.
The student was sent for a medical check-up, he said.
