Police detain Tamil Nadu shopkeeper for refusing to sell snacks, chocolates to children of specific street

Police arrested a shopkeeper in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, declined to sell any types of snacks to a particular group of students who lived in a specific street.

Chennai: A shopkeeper in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu, declined to sell any types of snacks to a particular group of students and claimed that the village authorities had put a ban on selling anything to anyone who lived in that street. When some kids in a particular area went to a shop to purchase snacks and chocolates, the shopkeeper refused to give them away despite the kids having money. The police immediately took action and arrested the shopkeeper, identified as Maheshwaran.

Additionally, the shopkeeper also told the students to go home and tell their families about the restrictions.

The video of the incident revealed that the shopkeeper was telling the students that the village had discussed the situation and not to sell anything to residents of that specific street.

The moment the video surfaced on social media, it went viral. The district administration quickly took action and filed an FIR regarding the matter. The suspect has been kept in police custody. The authorities have sealed the shop where the incident occurred.

The village headman is the real culprit in the case. Police have nabbed him, said a source in the district administration.
