Patna: Five prisoners and two police officers were enjoying a liquor party at the excise police station in Paliganj, near Bihar’s Patna, on Thursday. All seven accused were nabbed.
Senior officials have asked for a detailed report regarding the matter, and they have also urged the excise and prohibition department to take appropriate action against the accused officers and constables who were absent without leave from the police station on the intervening nights of Tuesday and Wednesday.
Due to the prohibition on alcohol, Bihar is a dry state. After the incident of the liquor party that was going on at the excise police station came to light, a video of inmates enjoying themselves at a party featuring alcohol went viral and reached top officials,
The police have started looking into how the alcohol was delivered to the jail. The cops suspect that either employees at the excise police station or some outsiders who may have connections to both the convicts and the officers supplied the alcohol.
A prisoner made the video of the liquor party inside the prison, which he then forwarded to several of his contacts, including Paliganj ASP Awadhesh Dixit.
The Paliganj Police came into action and raided the excise police station to thwart the party. The locker was locked from the outside when the policemen arrived so that no one could enter the premises.
“We received information about it. We went to verify it and found them drinking alcohol. All are prisoners. “How they got alcohol and other things is part of the probe,” SDPO Paliganj said.
