On Monday night in the Kalaburagi district of Karnataka, a political worker was killed close to Sedam town. Controversy has erupted over his attachment to which political parties. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recognised him, but Superintendent of Police Isha Pant denied that he was a BJP worker, so it remained unclear which party he belonged to.

Mallikarjuna Muthiyal, 64, was named as the deceased. Earlier, he was a member of  Janata Dal (Secular). He is now recognised as part of the BJP.

Notably, he allegedly attended a programme of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on November 14. Mallikarjuna had an electronics shop in Sedam town. Intruders broke into his shop after the programme of state CM when he was sleeping and brutally murdered him.

Senior police officers, including SP Isha Pant, visited the spot where the incident took place. Police personnel inspected the entire area. A probe has been underway to catch the assailants and learn which political outfit the deceased was attached to.
