Our politicians are just not bothered to attend Lok Sabha proceedings

In what can be termed as a very ‘bizarre’ statistic, only five of the 545 members clocked hundred per cent attendance in three years of the current Lok Sabha.

On a more interesting note, Sonia Gandhi attended more sittings in comparison to Rahul Gandhi.

MP from Banda, Bhairon Prasad Mishra, got involved in 1,468 debates and discussions, the highest with 100% attendance record.

Records of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ministers are not available as they do not sign the attendance register.

According to this attendance register, around 25% MPs, 133 of the 545, have attended over 90% of the sittings.

Talking about Congress,  likes of Veerappa Moily and Mallikarjun Kharge, recorded 91 and 92% attendance, while young guns Jyotiraditya Scindia and Rajeev Satav attended 80 and 81% of the Lok Sabha sittings.

The other four MPs who did well in the attendance front includes BJD MP from Jagatsinghpur Kulmani Samal and BJP MPs Gopal Shetty (North Mumbai-Maharashtra), Kirit Solanki (Ahmedabad West) and Ramesh Chander Kaushik (Sonipat-Haryana).

Mulayam Singh Yadav clocked 79% attendance. While Dimple Yadav figure was less than 50 percent.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath Yogi, attended 72% of the Lok Sabha proceedings.

The lowest attendance was of Gyan Singh, a BJP MP from Madhya Pradesh, and Deepak Adhikari, actor-turned-politician from West Bengal with eight and nine% attendance.

Facing heat in BJP, Shatrughan Sinha attended 70% of the sittings, but he did not participate in any debate nor did he ask any question.
