Popular Tamil character and comedy actor RS Shivaji, 66, dies a day after his film release

Big blow to Tamil film industry as veteran actor of Tamil films RS Shivaji dies at the age of 66. He breathed his last in Chennai on Saturday (September 2, 2023) morning. He was last seen in the Yogi Babu-starrer ‘Luckyman’, which released on September 1 and is known for his work in the 2020 Suriya-starrer film ‘Soorarai Pottru'.

Chennai: Big blow to Tamil film industry as veteran actor of Tamil films RS Shivaji dies at the age of 66. He breathed his last in Chennai on Saturday (September 2, 2023) morning. Famous trade analyst of South Indian cinema Ramesh Bala has shared this sad news on social media. He was last seen in the Yogi Babu-starrer ‘Luckyman’, which released on September 1 and is known for his work in the 2020 Suriya-starrer film ‘Soorarai Pottru’.

Born on 26 October 1956 in Chennai, RS Shivaji was active in films since the 80s. He was seen regularly especially in Kamal Haasan’s films. He had a special relationship with Kamal Haasan’s production house Raj Kamal Films International. Under its banner, he worked in many successful films. Along with being an actor, Shivaji also worked as an assistant director. He also did sound designing and contributed significantly to the production of several Tamil films. The cause of his death has not been known yet.

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share the news and wrote, ”Popular Tamil Character/Comedy Actor #RSShivaji passed away in Chennai this morning..He acted in this Friday release #LuckyMan and has done several memorable roles including #ApoorvaSagodharargal etc May his soul RIP!”

Before the demise of RS Shivaji, his last film ‘Lucky Man’ was released, in which Yogi Babu played the lead role. Talking about RS Shivaji’s family, his brother Santana Bharti also works as an actor and director in films. His father M.R. Santnam played an important role in the film ‘Meera’ released in 1945, directed by Ellis. R. Dungan was. Popular films of RS Shivaji include Apoorva Sagodharargal,’ Kolamavu Kokila,’ and ‘Dharala Prabhu.

Veteran actor had primarily played comedy roles and regularly featured in Kamal Haasan’s films in the 1980s and 1990s. His “Saar! Neenga Engeyo Poiteenga, sir” dialogue from ‘Apoorva Sagodharargal’ (1989), which was dubbed in Hindi as ‘Appu Raja’, directed at Janagaraj, has been regularly parodied in later Tamil movies. He played important roles in ‘Kolamavu Kokila’ and ‘Dharala Prabhu’ as Nayanthara’s father and Vivek’s assistant.
