The people of Delhi have been enjoying 200 units of free electricity during the reign of Arvind Kejriwal. It is a boon for the poor in society. They don’t need to pay even a single penny. The freebie has not been over, but an alarming bell has been rung as per the indication given by CM Arvind Kejriwal after the Delhi Cabinet meeting today.

On Thursday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated that subsidised electricity in the national capital will be provided only to those who request it.“People will be given a choice—whether they want it or not,” Kejriwal said.

The new rule, CM Kejriwal said, will be implemented from October 1. The Delhi CM’s comment came in view of the criticism the government is facing on the matter.

The AAP government in Delhi has allocated 3,340 crore for the power sector for the 2022-23 financial year for its Special Electricity Subsidy Scheme.

The Delhi government will soon give consumers an option. In a press conference this evening, he said, “Now cheap electricity will be optional in Delhi.” That is, if a power consumer wants an electricity subsidy, then he will get free or subsidised electricity from now on.”

Those who are well off can opt to pay their electricity bills. People are expected to be given the option. This process will start soon. It seems like only needy people will get the power subsidy.

The coal stock in Delhi is low. This may affect power supply in the national capital. Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain has informed Union Power Minister RK Singh with details of low coal stock at several thermal plants supplying power in Delhi. He urged the Centre to provide coal sufficiently so that an uninterrupted electricity supply could be possible in Delhi.
