India President Foreign Visit: The President of India, Draupadi Murmu, is going on a visit to two countries early next month. President Draupadi Murmu will be on a tour of Suriname and Serbia from June 4 to 9. The Ministry of External Affairs gave this information on Monday. This will be Murmu’s first official foreign visit after assuming office in July 2022.
Along with this, the Ministry of External Affairs informed that the President will be on a visit to Paramaribo (Suriname) from June 4 to 6 at the invitation of Chandrika Prasad Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname. The ministry informed that in the second leg of the visit, Murmu will visit the Republic of Serbia from June 7 to 9 at the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
According to the ministry, Murmu will hold bilateral talks with Santokhi in Suriname and attend the celebrations to mark the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in the country as the chief guest. Significantly, on June 5, 1873, the first ship carrying 452 Indian laborers reached Paramaribo, the capital of Suriname. Most of these laborers were from eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Will meet the Indian community in Suriname
The Ministry of External Affairs said that in Suriname, the President will visit places of historical and cultural importance and interact with members of the Indian community. Santokhi had come to India in January this year as the guest of honor for the 17th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and had met Murmu.
President to hold bilateral meeting in Sabia
In the second leg of the presidential visit, Murmu will visit the Republic of Serbia from June 7 at the invitation of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. According to the ministry, in Serbia Murmu will hold bilateral meeting with President Vucic.
