President Murmu appointes Justice DY Chandrachud as next Chief Justice of India, to take oath on November 9

New Delhi: The President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud as the next Chief Justice of the country. Justice Chandrachud, who will assume office from November 9, will be the 50th Chief Justice of the country. His term will be till 10 November 2024.

New Delhi: The President Draupadi Murmu has appointed Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud as the next Chief Justice of the country. Justice Chandrachud, who will assume office from November 9, will be the 50th Chief Justice of the country. His term will be till 10 November 2024. He will succeed Justice UU Lalit, who is retiring on November 8. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju gave this information by tweeting.

Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju gave this information by tweeting. Kiren Rijiju said that, “In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, the President has appointed Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud as the Chief Justice of India with effect from November 9, 2022.” Kiren Rijiju extended his best wishes to Justice DY Chandrachud for the formal swearing-in ceremony on November 9.

In May 2016, Justice DY Chandrachud took over as the judge of the Supreme Court. His father YV Chandrachud has also been the Chief Justice of the country. The record of being CJI for the longest time is also recorded in the name of YV Chandrachud. He was the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 1978 to 1985.

Born on November 11, 1959, Justice Dhananjay Yashwant Chandrachud is the current sitting judge of the Supreme Court. In 1998 he was nominated as Senior Advocate in Bombay High Court. He has also been the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. Justice DY Chandrachud has been a judge in many big cases, including cases related to Sabarimala, homosexuality, Aadhaar and Ayodhya.
