Bengaluru: A dispute over an interfaith relationship between a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy led to an altercation on the college premises. The college authority temporarily suspended 18 students from the college located in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka.
All the suspended students were in the final year of their pre-university course. Three girls are among the 18 suspended. Ten of the students were Hindus, and the other eight were Muslims.
The incident had been soaring for the last three months when college officials learned of the relationship between a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy. They had previously called the girl’s parents and warned them against the relationship.
Authorities at the college recently discovered a love letter the girl had written to the boy. The college took the matter seriously and called the girl’s family members and asked them about the ongoing issue. Several students started making hue and cry amid a relationship between a Hindu girl and a Muslim boy.
These objections led to a communal turn on the college premises. Overall, 18 students were identified as being involved in raising the matter. Those who came forward to show their sympathy for the Hindu girl and Muslim boy were all temporarily suspended.
The college authorities said that the suspension would be revoked after a few days.
