Probe agency ED to file 1st chargesheet against Delhi CM Kejriwal tomorrow, calls him ‘kingpin’ of liquor policy case

New Delhi: The troubles of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in jail in the Delhi liquor scam case, seem to be increasing. On Thursday, The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will file its first chargesheet against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tomorrow. The agency calls him the “mastermind” of the Delhi liquor policy case.

In the chargesheet, the ED will call Kejriwal a ‘kingpin’ and a key conspirator in the liquor policy case. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 and is currently lodged in Tihar jail under judicial custody. Earlier, during the hearing seeking his custody, the ED had said that Kejriwal is the “main conspirator” in the liquor scam case.

Earlier, during the bail hearing on Tuesday, the apex court said that this is an extraordinary situation because Lok Sabha elections are going on. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta said that Kejriwal is not a habitual offender.

He said, ‘He is the Chief Minister of Delhi and an elected leader. Elections are going on. This is an extraordinary situation. It is not that he is a habitual offender. We will consider hearing arguments on whether he should be released on interim bail or not.’

The apex court told senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who was appearing for the Chief Minister, that the court does not want him to do government work if he gets interim bail. The bench said, ‘If you do government work, it will be a conflict of interest and we do not want this.’ Singhvi assured the bench that if Kejriwal gets interim bail in the case, he will not see any file related to the excise policy scam.
