The commissioner’s report blamed several state government departments, such as Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), Lucknow Electricity Supply Administration (LESA), district administration, fire, municipal corporation, and excise departments for the fire. Various officers and engineers who were also responsible for the fire incident were also named in the probe list.
After the tragic incident, a list of illegally constructed hotels in the UP capital was also handed over to the government.
Four people, including two women, were killed and several got burn injuries in the fire that broke out at Levana Suites Hotel, located in the commercial centre of Lucknow’s Hazratganj, on Monday, September 5.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had urged to go through the proper probe of the incident. During the investigation, the LDA found the hotel building had been violating many norms and asked that action be taken against the culprits. Several agencies are looking into the hotel’s records.
Lucknow Police on Tuesday detained hotel owners Rahul and Rohit Agarwal and general manager Sagar Srivastava. They have been sent to judicial custody till September 19 by a local court.
An FIR has been registered under IPC sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide).
The city administration has ordered the demolition of the Levana Suites because the building was not approved.
