Protest site cleared as top wrestlers trying to march to new Parliament; Detained

A 'Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat' has been called by wrestlers in Delhi today in protest against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Due to which strict security arrangements were made in Delhi.

New Delhi: Delhi Police has completely evacuated Jantar Mantar. Apart from the wrestlers, all the protesters were removed from Jantar Mantar. Jantar Mantar was cleaned by removing the tents and other belongings of the wrestlers. Earlier, top Indian wrestlers, including Olympians and Commonwealth Games champions, were detained as they tried to protest outside the newly built Parliament building.

The athletes are demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Singh, president of the Wrestling Federation of India, over allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation. A ‘Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat’ was called by the wrestlers today in Delhi to protest against WFI President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Due to which strict security arrangements were made in Delhi.

The Special CP of Delhi Police said that we had earlier told the wrestlers not to do any anti-national work today, but they did not listen to us. We have detained everyone and vacated Jantar Mantar.

Earlier, on the call of ‘Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat’ by wrestlers in Delhi today, wrestler Bajrang Punia said that we will march towards Parliament at the time given for ‘Mahila Samman Mahapanchayat’. I will appeal to the police administration that we will go peacefully, we should not be harassed. Everyone is requested to maintain peace. Mayor Dr Shelly Oberoi rejected the demand of Delhi Police to make a temporary jail in MCD school.

Anticipating a large number of protestors from Haryana to participate in the Mahila Mahapanchayat called by Wrestlers on the day of the inauguration of the new Parliament, the DCP of Outer North district wrote a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of MCD demanding that MC Primary Girls School, Kanjhawala Road Permission should be given to build a temporary jail in Old Bawana.
