Protests erupt all over country as ED questions Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi: Protests by Congress workers across the country erupted in response to the incessant questioning of Rahul Gandhi by ED in the National Herald case. Over 300 protesters were detained by police in Puducherry, while water cannons were used to disperse the crowds in Delhi, Punjab, and Kerala. In Hyderabad, protests by Congress workers turned violent.

Workers from the Karnataka Congress marched to Raj Bhavan to deliver a memorandum and a protest letter against the BJP in response to the ED’s investigation into Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case. On their approach to Raj Bhavan, Congress leaders DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah were detained.

Congress had alleged that several police personnel forced their way into its headquarters and assaulted party workers and leaders. yesterday.

The party, in a statement, said they presented “a detailed written complaint highlighting the brazen and illegal actions of officials of the Delhi police in entering and attacking workers of the INC, without provocation, at 24 Akbar Road.”

Sachin Pilot said senior people, MLAs, MPs, and office bearers of the party were brutalised. A woman MP’s clothes were torn. Such action is uncalled for. Never before has a police force taken such action.

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaran condemned the attack and said they detained MPs without a written order for 8–12 hours; they denied them food and water; and when the MPs asked the reason behind the arrest, the police didn’t give any answer. It’s a clear violation of liberty… every fundamental right was violated.

Many other Congress leaders were detained while some are still holding the fort across the nation to fight against the ED’s probe. Meanwhile, after an eight-hour questioning on Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Rahul Gandhi for a fourth round of questioning in the National Herald case.
