Pulwama: Ahead Independence day ‘major tragedy averted’ as IED weighing nearly 30 kgs recovered in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police today averted a major incident by seizing more than 25 kg of explosives. A major accident was averted on Wednesday by alert security forces in Pulwama district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by recovering an Improvised Powerful Device (IED) weighing about 30 kg. According to the report received, this IED was recovered by the police and security forces this morning near the Tahab crossing on the circular road in Pulwama.

Additional Director General of Police Vijay Kumar said that a major accident was averted with the specific information of Pulwama Police. Mr Kumar tweeted that an IED weighing around 25 to 30 kg was recovered by police and security forces near Tahab crossing on Circular Road in Pulwama. A major tragedy was averted by the intelligence input of the Pulwama Police.

Sources in the police department said that the IED was found by the security forces during the road opening exercise. According to official sources, the explosives were successfully defused by the Bomb Disposal Squad, averting a major accident. Had the IED not been detected and deactivated in time, there could have been a major tragedy.

Meanwhile, 3 Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists, including Lateef Rather who was involved in the killing of Kashmiri pandit government employee Rahul Bhat in May, are trapped in an ongoing encounter with security forces in Budgam.

Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Waterhail in Khansahib area of the district following information about the presence of terrorists there, a police spokesman said, adding that the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists fired upon the security forces.

A case has been registered against Sabauddin in Lucknow under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act.
