Punjab AAP MLA Vijay Pratap, steps down from assembly panel over differences with CM Mann on sacrilege probe

Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Punjab, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, has stepped down as chairman of the committee on government assurances of the Vidhan Sabha.

Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Punjab, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, has stepped down as chairman of the committee on government assurances of the Vidhan Sabha.

The former IPS officer resigned on Tuesday night and has occasionally voiced his disagreements with the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab over how it has handled the 2015 sacrilege cases.

Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has not  accepted his resignation yet.

On account of this, the MLA, who was a former inspector general of police, left the police service and joined the AAP. He headed the investigation into one of the sacrilege cases.

It is learnt that on January 20, he called a meeting of senior government officials, including the chief secretary VK Janjua, to review the investigation into the sacrilege cases. He served as the c kihairman of the committee on government assurances.

However, the meeting of the committee on government assurances failed to take place, which left him upset. The term of the committee is set to end in March.
