Ludhiana: A blast that rocked the Ludhiana court complex on Thursday afternoon, killed two people while four others have suffered serious injuries in the explosion. The district court was functioning when the explosion took place.
As per Police officials, the explosion took place in a washroom on the second floor of the District and Sessions court complex in Ludhiana around 12:22 pm. The intensity of the blast was such that it damaged the walls of the bathroom and shattered glass panes of nearby rooms.
Soon after the incident, police cordoned off the area and fire engines were rushed to the spot.
The district court is located near the District Commissioner’s office in the heart of Ludhiana city.
There was a lawyers’ strike on Thursday and, therefore, only a few people were in the court complex at the time of the blast.
Walls of bathrooms were demolished, while the window glass was also shattered in the bomb blast.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh was among the first prominent leaders to react to the incident. In a Twitter post, Mr Singh asked Punjab police to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Meanwhile, a two-member team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to visit the blast site in Ludhiana. A team from the National Bomb Data Center was also rushed to the spot.
The National Security Guard (NSG) will send a team to probe the matter.
As of now, more details are awaited in the matter.
