The top brass of the Aam Aadmi Party confirmed the names of the ministers. All the cabinet ministers are set to take the oath of office on Saturday at Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh. AAP overlooked most of the giant killers and second-timers, except a few.

Eight new faces

Among the 10 ministers, many new faces can be seen in Mann’s new cabinet. Eight MLAs who are elected for the first time will get a chance to work with the new chief minister of Punjab. Otherwise, the list has only included two second-time MLAs.

Former leader of opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, who was elected from Dirba, and Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, who won the election a second time, will be inducted into Bhagwant Mann’s cabinet. It seems the ministry of Mann will be a mixture of experienced and inexperienced MLAs.

Apart from the two MLAs, eight first-time ministers have an opportunity to become remarkable aides to Bhagwant Mann and play a key role as ministers in the development of Punjab and the Aam Aadmi Party.

The following are the names of the eight new ministers and the constituencies from where they were elected: AAP’s former youth wing chief Harjot Singh Bains (Sri Anandpur Sahib MLA), Dr Vijay Singla (Mansa), Dr Baljit Kaur (Malout), Lal Chand Kataruchak (Bhoa), Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal (Ajnala), Laljit Singh Bhullar (Patti), Harbhajan Singh ETO (Jandiala) and Brahm Shankar Jimpa (Hoshiarpur).

The first list of cabinet members has given representation to four Scheduled Castes and one woman member, four Jats, and two Hindus. Among the 10 ministers, five and four MLAs belong to Malwas and four each from Majha, respectively. One member will be from Doaba (Hoshiarpur).

The chief minister of Punjab can expand his cabinet by up to 17 ministers as per the rules. Remember, the Punjab Assembly elects 117 MLAs.
