Punjab: Pakistani drone shot down by BSF jawans in Amritsar; 5th in 4 days

Amritsar: BSF personnel shot down a Pakistani drone that had entered Punjab to drop a consignment of drugs from the international border. This is the fifth Pakistani drone in the last four days, which has been stopped by BSF personnel from entering the Indian border.

Officials said on Monday that a Pakistani drone has been shot down in the Amritsar sector of Punjab. BSF has recovered a black colored drone, under which suspected narcotics were hanging. He said that the quantity and quality of the drugs is being ascertained.

This is the fifth drone on the Punjab border since May 19, which has been intercepted by BSF jawans. Officials said a few more incidents of drones being heard by the troops in the last four days have come to the fore, but nothing more has been established.

BSF jawans shot down two drones on May 19 i.e. Friday and intercepted a third one on the front. A BSF spokesperson had said that the third drone fell in Pakistani territory and could not be recovered.

Apart from these, on May 20, a drone violated the Indian airspace, which was intercepted by firing in the jurisdiction of the Amritsar sector. 3.3 kg of suspected narcotics was recovered from that drone, which was hanging below it.

Punjab shares a border of over 500 km with Pakistan, which is guarded by the BSF. In the last three-four years, cross-border smuggling of drugs, arms and ammunition through drones and unmanned aerial vehicles has increased, which remains a matter of concern for the security forces.
