Punjab Police raids Mohali hideout, arrests close aide of Amritpal Singh

Punjab: There is a big police siege in Mohali, Punjab. A woman named Gurjant Singh and Nisha Rani, close to Khalistani supporter Amritpal Singh, have been detained by the police. They live in Sector-89 of Mohali. Two days earlier, two people were arrested in Punjab on the charge of sheltering Amritpal Singh.

Punjab: There is a big police siege in Mohali, Punjab. A woman named Gurjant Singh and Nisha Rani, close to Khalistani supporter Amritpal Singh, have been detained by the police. They live in Sector-89 of Mohali. Two days earlier, two people were arrested in Punjab on the charge of sheltering Amritpal Singh.

Officials said that the arrested persons were identified as Rajdeep Singh, a resident of Babak village in Hoshiarpur district and Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Jalandhar district. Rajdeep Singh and Sarabjit Singh were produced before a magistrate on Friday night, who sent them to one-day police custody.

At the same time, a close associate of Amritpal Singh was sent to three-day police custody by a court here on Sunday. Joga Singh, who was arrested by the police on charges of sheltering and providing other assistance to Amritpal Singh in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district, was produced in a court on Sunday. Police said that Joga Singh, a resident of Ludhiana and in-charge of a dera in Pilibhit, was arrested from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib when he came to Punjab from Haryana.

Joga was arrested in a joint operation by Amritsar Police (Rural) and Hoshiarpur Police. The police had said that Joga was in direct contact with Amritpal. It was Joga who brought Amritpal and his other associate Papalpreet back to Punjab. Last month, the police had launched a major crackdown against Amritpal and members of his “Waris Punjab De” outfit. Amritpal had evaded the police on March 18.
