Punjab: Top army officer kills wife, shoots himself dead in Ferozepur; suicide note found

Wife Murder: In a statement issued by the army, it has been said that the military officer had also left a suicide note before the suicide. In which the reason for killing the wife was said to be a dispute in married life.

Ferozepur/Punjab: A heart-wrenching case has come to light in Firozpur Cantonment of Punjab. An army officer committed suicide by shooting himself in Ferozepur. Police said that the officer posted in the rank of lieutenant colonel in the Indian Army had also killed his wife before shooting himself.

The wife was also found dead at his residence, news agency ANI reported. The couple had marital issues and were undergoing regular counselling sessions, the officials said.

The Army and the Punjab police have started an investigation into the matter.

In December 2021, an Army Major allegedly died by suicide by shooting himself with an AK-47 rifle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district. The 29-year-old officer from Priyadarshini Vihar in Delhi was company commander of 23 RR’s Ramban detachment, Alpha Coy Mahubal.

In another incident, a policeman was shot dead allegedly by criminals in Phagwara area of Kapurthala district of Punjab on Sunday.

Police constable Kuldeep Singh Bajwa was killed while chasing criminals who were trying to escape after looting a car last night. Three criminals also received injuries in the exchange of fire.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore for the deceased cop’s family.

“Salute to martyr Constable Kuldeep Singh Bajwa Belt no. 886/KPT who has made the sacrifice in line of duty. Punjab Government will make Ex Gratia grant of Rs 1 crores. Another Rs 1 crore insurance payment will be made by HDFC Bank. We stand with our martyrs and their families,” the Chief Minister said in a tweet.
