Punjab: The Punjab government has taken a big action regarding the lapse in security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government has issued strict departmental action orders against then DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay, then DIG Inderbir Singh of Ferozepur, then SSP Harmandeep Hans. Also action will be taken against many other IPS officers of Punjab in this case. The decision in this regard was taken by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

The government has asked then ADGP Law and Order Naresh Arora, then ADGP Cyber Crime G Nageshwar Rao, then IGP Patiala Range Mukhwinder Singh, then IG Counter Intelligence Rakesh Aggarwal, then DIG Faridkot Surjeet Singh and then SSP Moga Charanjit Singh. The communication stated that “why disciplinary proceedings should not be initiated against them as recommended by the Enquiry Committee.”

In a major security lapse, the PM’s motorcade had remained stuck on a flyover on the Moga-Ferozepur highway for nearly 20 minutes as the farmers were protesting against his visit. Punjab’s Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua confirmed the development. He said that earlier, he apprised the Union Home Secretary that the state government was examining the report and the action would be taken against the erring officials soon.

Now, the state government will issue chargesheets to then DGP Chattopadhyaya, then DIG (Ferozepur) Inderbir and then SSP (Ferozepur) Hans, and appoint an inquiry officer to give a hearing to all officers indicted by the inquiry committee. At the time of the security breach, the then CM, Charanjit Singh Channi, had claimed that there was no security lapse.

The Supreme Court had constituted a committee of 5 members headed by retired Justice Indu Malhotra to investigate the matter of lapse in PM’s security. In this report of the inquiry committee presented 6 months ago, the then Chief Secretary of the state Anirudh Tiwari, Police Chief S Chattopadhyay and other top officials were held responsible for the lapse in the security of the PM. Following this, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla had asked Punjab Chief Secretary Vijay Kumar Janjua to submit an action taken report.

In this report, the Punjab Police officials were accused of negligent attitude and the incident was described as a colossal failure in planning and coordination. At the time when the matter of lapse in the security of PM Modi came to light in Punjab, at that time there was a Congress government in the state and Charanjit Singh Channi was the Chief Minister.

Let us tell you that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Punjab on 5 January 2022. Meanwhile, in Ferozepur, PM Modi’s convoy was stopped by the farmers on the bridge in a village. After this PM had to cancel his program and he returned back to Delhi. The matter went up to the Supreme Court and an inquiry committee was formed. Action is being taken on the basis of this report.
