Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa Beats Number 1 Chess Player: India’s emerging chess grand master Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has achieved a major achievement in classical chess. He has defeated world number-1 chess player Magnus Carlsen for the first time in classical chess. Praggnanandhaa defeated Carlsen with white pieces in the third round of Norway Chess 2024.

India’s 18-year-old chess player Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has achieved the leader’s position by defeating world number-1 chess player Magnus Carlsen in a prestigious tournament held on his soil. Praggnanandhaa registered his first win against Carlsen in the third round of the Norway Chess 2024 tournament in Stavanger on Wednesday (May 29). He scored 5.5 out of 9 at the end of the third round of the tournament. At the same time, American Grandmaster Fabio Caruana defeated GM Ding Liren and took second place by scoring three points.

Last year, in the World Cup, India’s Grandmaster Praggnanandha had to face defeat against Magnus Carlsen. But now Praggnanand has achieved a big achievement by defeating Carlsen. He is only the fourth Indian to defeat number-1 chess player Carlsen in classical chess.
