New Delhi: As the battle for the Congress presidential nomination heats up, activities among the party workers have intensified as they consider who will be the next president of the Congress party.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that party leader Rahul Gandhi revealed that no member of the Gandhi family should be the next party president. Rahul Gandhi made his remarks as the upcoming election for the party’s chief post is not far away.
Gehlot stated on Friday in Kerala while speaking to the media, “I have repeatedly pleaded with Rahul Gandhi to accept everyone’s offer to lead the Congress. He was adamant that no member of the Gandhi family should succeed in becoming the next chief.
Gehlot said that he would soon submit his election nomination. He asserted that the opposition needs to be strong considering the current position of the country.
Ashok Gehlot and party MP Shashi Tharoor are the two prominent contenders for the race in the upcoming election for the Congress president. However, Congress committees across the country are holding meetings wherein a resolution is being passed stating that “we authorise the incoming Congress president to appoint PCC and AICC members.”
