New Delhi: A day after India-China disengagement, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling him “a coward” and one who “bowed down to China” while betraying the sacrifice of Indian army. Hitting back to Congress Chief’s allegations, BJP leader G Kishan Reddy said Rahul must “ask his grandfather (Nehru) about who has given India’s territory to China.”
Modi is a “coward” remark was made by Rahul Gandhi while addressing a press conference from Congress headquarters in Delhi, where he had said that the PM has “not fulfilled the responsibility of protecting India’s territory” and has instead given Indian territory to China.
“The PM is a coward who cannot stand up to the Chinese. He is betraying the sacrifice of our army. Nobody in India should be allowed to do it,” Gandhi had alleged.
Reacting to Rahul’s comments, Minister of State Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said, “He must ask his grandfather (Jawaharlal Nehru) about who has given India’s territory to China, he will get the answer.. Who is a patriot and who is not, the public knows it all”.
Meanwhile, calling Rahul Gandhi’s statement both unparliamentary and immature, Union minister RK Singh said, “He neither understands anything nor does he put an effort to understand things. I think his statement is both unparliamentary and immature”.
Gandhi’s comment comes after India and China reached an agreement on disengagement in the North and South bank of Pangong lake in eastern Ladak.
During a Parliamentary session, Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday informed that India and China have agreed to convene the next meeting of their senior commanders, within 48 hours after completing the disengagement in the Pangong Lake area, to “address and resolve all other remaining issues”.
As per this agreement, any structures built by both sides since April 2020 in north and south bank areas will be removed and landforms to be restored.
However, the issue of Depsang Plains or Bulge area as well as other trouble-spots like Gogra-Hotsprings and Charding Ninglung Nallah (CNN) track junction in the Demchok sector are likely to come up in the next meeting with China.
Noting that the area till Finger 4 in Pangong is India’s territory, Rahul Gandhi asked PM to explain why the soldiers have been asked to move to Finger 3.
“Finger 4 is our territory, that is where our post used to be. Now we have moved from Finger 4 to Finger 3. Why has Prime Minister Modi given up Indian territory to the Chinese. This is the question that needs to be answered by him and the defence minister,” said Congress Chief.
“It is clear PM Modi has given India’s land to China,” alleged Gandhi.
He further questioned why have Chinese troops not moved back from Gogra-Hot Spring, Depsang plains, while also criticising government for agreeing to vacate the Kailash Range heights.
“The defence minister didn’t speak a word on the most important strategic area – Depsang Plains – from where China had entered. The truth is that the Prime Minister has given away the Indian territory to China. He must answer to the country,” said Gandhi.
