New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “undesirable and unfair” attack on the government and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The BJP said that Rahul Gandhi should accept that he could unfurl the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar only because of the better atmosphere created by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that it is Modi’s decisive leadership which abrogated Article 370, created an atmosphere of peace in the valley and now the tricolor is being hoisted on Independence Day and Republic Day.

“How did Rahul Gandhi peacefully unfurl the tricolour at Srinagar’s Lal Chowk today? It happened because Modi Ji abrogated Article 370 in J&K. After Art 370, J&K received a high number of tourists. During Congress govt, there was terrorism and fear in Kashmir,” senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

On Sunday, at the historic clock tower of Lal Chowk, popularly known as ‘Ghanta Ghar’, the Congress MP hoisted the tricolour, a move mirroring Jawaharlal Nehru hoisting the national flag at the same spot 75 years back.

BJP spokesperson and former Union Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said in a statement, “Rahul Gandhi is proudly hoisting the tricolor at Lal Chowk. Prime Minister Modi and his government have created such an atmosphere in Kashmir that every Indian can proudly hoist the tricolor there. Rahul Gandhi should thank Modi ji for hoisting the tricolor.

Taking a dig at the handling of terrorism by the Congress in Kashmir, Prasad told reporters that what happened during the 10-year rule of Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi and the Congress rule in general, people know. He said that with the return of peace in the Valley, the number of tourists has increased manifold.

The former law minister said, “The really sad thing is that even after covering a distance of more than 3,000 kms in this so-called yatra, Gandhi’s view about RSS and BJP is the same because he made baseless allegations.” This is not a ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, but a political campaign against the BJP government and PM Modi in particular.”

“Rahul Gandhi was supposed to raise the national flag on January 30 at the PCC office, since permission to do so elsewhere was not given. Last evening, state administration allowed him to do so at Lal Chowk, but under the condition that it should be done today on 29th at the end of Bharat Jodo Yatra,” he tweeted.

The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which started in Kanyakumari on September 7, will conclude on January 30 in Srinagar after covering 3,970 km, 12 states, and two Union territories.
