Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed his life for the country. We have come together here to commemorate him,” stated Vikar Rasool Wani, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee.

Rahul Gandhi Shared a video on X (formally Twitter) writing in Hindi: “Dad, the dreams you had for India shimmer through these priceless memories in your eyes. In your footsteps lies my path – I understand the struggles and dreams of every Indian, I am listening to the voice of Mother India.”

Rahul Gandhi is presently on a Ladakh tour, his first visit to the region since it became a Union territory after being separated from Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019. He is also expected to visit Kargil next week.

Jammu and Kashmir was transformed into a Union territory and its special status under Article 370 of the Constitution was revoked.

Gandhi arrived in Leh for a two-day visit on Thursday, later extending his stay by four more days to include visits to Pangong Lake, Nubra Valley, and the Kargil district.

After covering over 130 km on a motorcycle, he spent the night at Pangong Lake, which stands at an elevation of 14,271 feet. A symbolic celebration was planned on Sunday, Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Rahul Gandhi shares images of his motorcycle expedition in Ladakh:

Rahul Gandhi shared images of his motorcycle expedition on his social media accounts, captioned “On our way to Pangong Lake, which my father used to say is one of the most beautiful places in the world.”

He is set to travel to Nubra Valley on the motorcycle for an overnight stay there, interacting with locals along the way. He is expected to return to Leh on Monday.

Although the trip has been characterized by his party as “non-political,” with no consideration for next year’s parliamentary elections, Rahul Gandhi was warmly welcomed by party members upon his arrival in Leh. He engaged with party colleagues, interacted with youth, and watched a local football match.

Gandhi is also scheduled to visit the Kargil district, likely on Monday or Tuesday. His visit holds significance as the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) in Kargil is holding elections on September 10. The National Conference and the Congress have already announced a pre-poll alliance for the hill council elections.
