New Delhi: In response to a question on whether his estranged cousin and BJP MP Varun Gandhi could participate in the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday that it could be difficult because their ideologies don’t match.

At a news conference in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, where he is leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “Varun Gandhi is in the BJP, and if he walks here, it might be a problem for him.”

Varun Gandhi’s ideology is unacceptable. he adopted a different ideology than my family, and I am unable to accept that. “I cannot go to the RSS office; I’ll have to be beheaded before that,” the Congress leader said.

The speculation was rife regarding the joining of Varun Gandhi at the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and, eventually, the Congress, as he has been taking stands on people-centric issues through his tweets.

The central government has been uncomfortable and embarrassed as a result, and the opposition will get ammunition to step up its criticism of the BJP. The BJP, for its part, has attempted to brush off these comments by claiming that Varun, a three-term MP, “loves giving personal ideas on a regular basis.”

Both Varun and his mother, Maneka Gandhi, a longtime BJP supporter and MP from Uttar Pradesh, exclude the name of the saffron party from their Twitter biographies. Currently, both of them aren’t part of PM Modi’s council of ministers or any important BJP posts. During the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections held last year, they did not campaign for the BJP.

Rahul Gandhi intended the following words in his comments on Tuesday: Varun has to officially quit the BJP and publicly denounce the BJP-RSS ideology. Then he can be part of the Congress.
