Rajasthan: 2 Enforcement Directorate officials arrested over Bribery Charge

Rajasthan: According to an official statement, Two Enforcement Directorate officers have been arrested for allegedly being involved in seeking bribery of Rs 15 lakhs through a middleman. According to the complainant, Naval Kishore Meena and Babulal Meena allegedly took the bribe in a chit fund case from Manipur.

The Rajasthan anti-corruption bureau (ACB) in a statement said the two ED officers were caught while taking the money.ACB is also searching the premises of inspectors of ED. The initial demand was for a bribe of Rs 17 lakh, the statement added.

The detention came after the ACB conducted raids at several places in Rajasthan in connection with the ED official concerned. The anti-corruption body in the Congress-ruled state said, “A team of the ACB caught the two ED inspectors accepting Rs 15 lakh. The ACB is searching the premises of the ED inspectors.”

Naval Kishore Meena was picked up by the Rajasthan ACB after he was trapped by the unit in a case of income disproportion against known source of earnings. The ED had on October 30 questioned Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav for nine hours in a case of alleged violation of foreign exchange rules.

The Rajasthan ACB is expected to make an official announcement on the matter shortly. The ED action just a month before the assembly election, scheduled on November 25, was slammed by the Gehlot government as political vendetta.

Mr Gehlot has said that central agencies have lost their credibility due to alleged misuse by the BJP-led central government. He said, “Central agencies no longer have any credibility. This is a worrying situation. This is not about my son or the state Congress president. Terror has been created in the country.”
