Jaipur: Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena (RRKS) chief Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was shot at least five times at close range with the final bullet pumped in his head in Jaipur on Tuesday, Jaipur Police confirmed. The fatal incident took place in Shyam Nagar area of Pink City and was captured on CCTV cameras. Gogamedi was rushed to private hospital but pronounced dead. Two other persons were also injured in the attack.
It is shown in the video that the leader of the extremist organization is looking at his phone, when people sitting near him stand up and open fire on him. One of his guards was seen trying to stop the gunmen, who in turn fired two bullets at him.
“The attackers has done conversation with Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi for at least 10 minutes before shooting him.” said police.
The 20-second clip shows the men repeatedly firing at Gogamedi even after he stopped moving.
The incident followed an earlier attack in August when Karni Sena’s Rajasthan state president Bhanwar Singh Saladia survived a firing attempt by a former member of the same outfit. The identity of the attackers in this latest incident is still unknown, but the police is currently investigating the matter. Karni Sena has been a frequent target due to its high-profile advocacy work and its role as a community pressure group.
He was admitted to Metro Mass Hospital after the tragedy but he could not survive. The occurrence occurred in the Shayam Nagar area of the district. As soon as the local police came to know about the incident, they rushed to the spot and trying to examine the CCTV footage.
As the news of his demise spread, several Karni Sena workers gathered outside the Metro Mass Hospital where Gogamedi’s body is kept. An official said a police team has reached the hospital and the body will be sent for post-mortem. Another team has been tasked at the crime spot.
Authorities are now vigorously investigating the murder, aiming to determine the identity of the attackers and their motives. Tension is evident in the area as the criminals are still at large. The Karni Sena, known primarily for its tough stance on the portrayal of historical figures in films and media, is holding its breath as the investigation unfolds. The impact of this incident on the organization and broader socio-political conditions remains to be seen.
Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi had previously played a prominent role in the Rashtriya Karni Sena and later formed the Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena following a dispute. Gogamedi came into limelight during the protests in Rajasthan after the release of the film “Padmavat” and the gangster Anandpal encounter case. Several of his videos addressing these issues have gone viral.
The defeat of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi is expected to be a major blow to the Karni Sena, but is unlikely to diminish the group’s commitment to its objectives and the Rajput community. Although this shocking incident has embarrassed the organization, it remains to be seen how it will affect the group’s future actions and strategies in the political and social sphere.
