Ram Navami violence in Bihar: 14 injured after two groups clash in Nalanda; section 144 imposed, internet services suspend

Bihar: Section 144 was imposed in Bihar’s Rohtas and Nalanda district headquarters in Sasaram and Bihar Sharif respectively in view of the tension created during Ram Navami celebrations. Curfew has been imposed after the violence in Bihar Sharif. Internet service has been stopped in the area. At least 14 people were injured in a clash between two groups after a Ram Navami procession near Gagan Dewan in Laheri police station area in Nalanda on Friday.

Dr Vishwajit Kumar of Sadar Hospital said that 14 people were brought here. 4 of them were shot, out of which 3 have been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital. One person is admitted in ICU. After the Ram Navami procession on Friday, two groups clashed. In view of the tension, Section 144 has been invoked.

A senior police officer said that there was also stone pelting and arson of vehicles. Police and administration reached the spot immediately after the incident. Nalanda DM Shashank Shubhankar said, “We are getting information about the incident through CCTV footage, drone cameras and videography.” Will. They will not be spared, strict action will be taken.

Sasaram’s Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Manoj Kumar invoked Section-144 (prohibitory orders) to prevent a recurrence of the clashes that took place on Thursday evening. The SDM said, in areas like Shah Jalal Peer, Sona Patti, Kadir Ganj and Navratna Peer, several shops and vehicles were set on fire and stones were pelted by the angry mob, in which many people including two police personnel were injured.

After the incident, heavy deployment of security personnel has been made in the entire area and Deputy Inspector General Naveen Chandra Jha, District Magistrate Dharmendra Kumar and Superintendent of Police Vineet Kumar are themselves patrolling the affected areas and appealing to the people for peace.

Section 144 has been implemented after clashes in Gagan Dewan, Mansoor Nagar and Nabi Nagar in Bihar Sharif of Nalanda, the home district of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. More than 10 people have been injured in the clashes here and many shops and vehicles have been set on fire.

Nalanda District Magistrate Shashank Subhankar said, We appeal to people to exercise restraint. We are also scouring the CCTV footage to identify the miscreants. Meanwhile, the state police headquarters issued a statement denying media reports that shots were fired by the mob. The police said they are also keeping an eye on those spreading rumors on social media.
