Mumbai: Lucknow Super Giants stunned Kolkata Knight Riders by 2 runs in a nail-biting finish yesterday in Mumbai. Meanwhile, KKR became the third team to be eliminated from contention for the playoffs. The seesaw battle went to the wire. The pendulum of the match swung from one side to another.
The late bash by the KKR batters almost snatched the match from the jaws of LSG. But Stoinis’s two wickets in two consecutive balls in the last over of the match diminished the slender hope of KKR.
RCB gear up against GT
The IPL caravan has reached Wankhede stadium, Mumbai for another thrilling encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Titans. This game is of utmost importance for Faf’s side, RCB. It is a do-or-die situation for RCB against GT. A win would keep the Bangalore team in contention for the playoffs, while a loss would end RCB’s chances of going ahead. Hopefully, cricket fans will get a chance to watch another enthralling encounter tonight.
It is said that uncertainty always looms in cricket. Currently, RCB have 14 points and is occupying 5th place. The franchise is aiming to defeat table-toppers and already qualified Gujarat Titans in tonight’s encounter. However, a loss here would mean an exit door for RCB.
Kohli needs to click
Time has come for Virat Kohli to shut the mouths of his critics. He should play an exhilarating innings to ensure RCB’s victory. The top players for RCB are not clicking. Their premier bowlers, Josh Hazlewood and Mohammed Siraj, are leaking runs, which is a worry for the team management of RCB. In fact, Siraj has conceded 85 runs in his last seven overs in this season of the IPL.
Wanindu Hasaranga has been a ray of hope for RCB. He has already scalped 23 wickets so far. RCB are expecting a remarkable show from Hasaranga today. Rajat Patidar has been making a useful contribution at number 3. GT have an opportunity to test their bench strength and get valuable practise before the start of the playoffs.
Wriddhiman Saha added another feather in the hat of GT in the Powerplay. Shubman Gill has accumulated over 400 runs in this season of the IPL. The evergreen Rashid Khan has lifted his game tremendously. In the last three matches, he picked up seven wickets. The only worry for the GT is the form of their captain, Hardik Pandya, who has compiled just 56 runs in his last six encounters.
The Wankhede track is full of runs. The last game here was played between SRH and MI, which turned out to be a high-scoring match. The bowlers have to bowl on an accurate line and length to keep the batsmen in check; otherwise, the pitch is a paradise for batters and they won’t leave any scoring opportunities.
GT pacers had the best economy rate at death overs in IPL 2022 (9.62).
RCB and GT are unconquered at the Wankhede this season. Both franchises have won three encounters on this ground.
It is expected that cricket fans will get a chance to watch another nail-biting encounter in today’s contest between RCB and debutant GT.
