Mumbai: Adil Durrani, husband of actress Rakhi Sawant, has been arrested by the Mumbai Police. His arrest has been done on the basis of Rakhi Sawant’s complaint. Durrani was brought to the city’s Oshiwara police station on Tuesday after the actress accused her husband of assaulting her and taking away money and jewelery from their flat without her knowledge.

Citing Rakhi Sawant’s statement given to the police on Monday night, an official said that Sawant (41) came in contact with Durrani (30) in January 2022 and both had opened a joint business account.

According to the complaint, Durrani withdrew over Rs 1.5 crore from that account in June to buy a car, but Sawant raised no objection as Durrani had said he would marry her, the official said. He told that later Durrani allegedly assaulted Sawant twice, due to which he had to file a non-cognizable complaint against Durrani.

The police officer said that according to Sawant, Durrani threatened him that he would throw acid on his face or get him killed in a road accident. Sawant also accused Durrani of forcing him to offer ‘Namaz’. The officer said that on Sunday night, Sawant came to know that Rs 5 lakh in cash and his mother’s jewelery worth Rs 2.5 lakh were missing from his cupboard. After this, he came to know from the watchman of his building in Andheri that Durrani had come to the flat in his absence.

Following this, Sawant lodged a complaint with the Oshiwara police station on Monday night, following which an FIR was lodged against Durrani under sections 406 (betrayal of trust) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, police said.
