Rebel leader Eknath Shinde set to take oath as Maharashtra CM today at 7 pm: Fadnavis reveals

Mumbai: The floor test will put a stop to all uncertainty as the political thriller in Maharashtra has finally reached its conclusion. After the Supreme Court declined to delay the floor test urged by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray resigned from his position as chief minister on Wednesday due to a lack of support. Shiv Sena breakaway wing leader Eknath Shinde is convinced he will breeze through the floor test. Following this, Devendra Fadnavis of the BJP is likely to become the new CM with Shinde’s backing. Here are the latest developments.

Eknath Shinde to take oath as CM today at 7 pm: Fadnavis

The latest update is that Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shinde will be the next chief minister of Maharashtra, the BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis made it clear on Thursday, a move that was unexpected. “I will stay out of the government and ensure it runs smoothly,” Mr Fadnavis said. It means Eknath Shinde will be sworn in at 7:30 pm today as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis is all set to take the oath as Maharashtra’s CM today at 7 pm. Rebel Shiv Sena MLAs Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis have reached the Raj Bhavan. They will meet Governor BS Koshyari.

Rebel MLAs still ready to talk to Uddhav

We are not against the Thackeray family. We are ready to talk to Uddhavji if he breaks the alliance with MVA. But he is still with them. We have not gone to SC against Thackeray. “We still have respect for Thackeray Ji,” said Deepak Kesarkar, spokesperson of the Eknath Shinde camp.

A swearing-in ceremony may take place around 7-8 pm

Government sources say the swearing in of the new government is likely to happen around 7-8 pm, but the Governor’s office says there is no intimation of a swearing-in ceremony for today.

BJP core committee meeting

A BJP core committee meeting is currently taking place to discuss strategy for the formation of the Maharashtra government. A meeting of the BJP core committee is underway at Sagar Bungalow, the residence of former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai to further deliberate on the strategy for the course of action following Uddhav Thackeray’s resignation as the Chief Minister on Wednesday. The party’s top leaders, including in-charge CT Ravi, Chandrakant Patil, Girish Mahajan, Praveen Darekar, and others, were present in the meeting. Independent MLA Ravi Rana also reached his residence. On the other hand, the Eknath Shinde faction also held a meeting today in Goa to decide on their future course of action.
