The road ahead for the Congress party is full of challenges, and it is more testing than ever. How to improve the party’s position regarding this Congress Parliamentary Party meeting held in the Central Hall of Parliament today? All the MPs of both the Houses of the party, including former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, took part in it.

Congress’s decline continues

The decline of the grand old party has been continuing. Currently, it has reached its bottom. There was a time when the party was supreme and ruled in the hearts of the people. Most people would like to welcome all the decisions taken by the party.

If we look back through history, we find that the party was founded in 1885 and took part gallantly in the freedom movement of the country. For the sake of the country, many members of the party lost their lives and property.

Gradually, the attention of the new generation started to change, and their focus shifted to new beliefs. Congress received the first jolt after the emergency in 1975. In Indian history, the Janata Party first unseated the Congress in 1977. Since then, the downfall of the party has been underway.

At present, a younger generation has forgotten the history of the party. But the loyalists of the party are still trying to revive it. After the drubbing in the recently concluded elections in five states, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said the revival of the Congress is essential for democracy as the Union government regularly resorts to “division and polarisation”.

Disappointment in Congress camp

During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi said, “I am very well aware of how disappointed you are at the recent election results.” They have been both shocking and painful. The CWC has met once to review our performance. I have met with other colleagues too. I have received many suggestions on how to strengthen our organisation. Many are pertinent and I am working on them. Holding a Shivir is also very necessary. “

She stressed the importance of holding camp and meeting with a large number of colleagues and party representatives. The party is seeking to take some urgent steps to tackle the ongoing challenges it has been facing at the moment. But the road ahead is replete with challenges, and it won’t be easy for the party men to achieve their goal. Congress needs to be loyal and work from the grassroots level to convince people.

Sonia Gandhi further added in today’s meeting that “Our dedication and determination, our spirit of resilience, are under severe test.” Unity at all levels of our vast organisation is of paramount importance and, speaking for myself, I am determined to do whatever is needed to ensure it. Our revival is not just a matter of importance to us alone. It is, in fact, essential for our democracy itself and indeed for our society as well. “

Hitting out at the Narendra Modi government, Ms. Gandhi said a divisive and polarising agenda has become a regular feature of the ruling establishment and contemporary history is being distorted to further fuel this agenda. It is time for us all to stand up and confront these forces of hate and prejudice. We will not allow them to damage the bonds of amity and harmony that have sustained and enriched our diverse society for centuries, “she said.

The BJP’s incessant criticism of the non-alignment principle Ms. Gandhi said in the times of the Ukraine-Russia crisis that the government had rediscovered it “even though it may not be acknowledged as such.” She also said the Congress-led UPA government’s MGNREGA and Food Security Act turned out to be saviours for crores of our people in the last two years.

The soaring prices of fuel and LPG gas cylinders have raised the eyes of the citizens of the country. The Congress party is likely to corner the government on the continuing soaring prices of essential items and the rising price of petrol, diesel, and LPG gas.
