Thiruvananthapuram: Indian captain Rohit Sharma has been outstanding as a captain in the game’s shortest format. As a result, he broke MS Dhoni’s record for most T20I victories as a captain in a year.

Another feather has been attached to Rohit’s hat after India outclassed South Africa in the first T-20I by eight wickets in Thiruvananthapuram. This was Rohit’s 16th victory as captain of the Men in Blue in 2022, while India won 15 games in 2016 under former captain MS Dhoni.

India, however, has been playing superb cricket, especially in the shortest format of the game. Despite losing the first T20I against the mighty Australians in the just concluded series, Rohit and his team did not give up and came back strongly like wounded cheetahs, defeating the Aussies in the next two matches to win the series 2-1. The ongoing series against South Africa is the final preparation for the Indian team for the upcoming T-20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13.

Winning the ICC Trophy is a matter of pride for any nation. India has not grabbed an ICC trophy since the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. However, the Men in Blue have faced criticism from cricket pundits and fans for failing to win trophies at ICC events for the past nine years. The Rohit Sharma-led side is replete with match winners, so the team has a golden opportunity to lift the upcoming T-20 World Cup and shut the mouth of critics.
