Ahmedabad: After a plethora of matches, only two matches are left in the IPL 2022. The curtain of the marathon tournament will fall on Sunday, May 29. One team, the Gujarat Titans, have already booked their place in the final, and are waiting anxiously to see who will be their opponent in the final.
The Gujarat Titans will need to wait till late evening today to find out the other finalist. The Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore are gearing up to move to the final. The venue is Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. If RCB wins in today’s match, then obviously a new champion will emerge in IPL 2022. RCB have not lifted the coveted trophy, while GT are the debutant side in this season’s IPL.
However, RR are determined to go all out to emerge victorious in their remaining two matches to lift the trophy and pay a perfect tribute to Shane Warne, captained the side in their maiden IPL triumph in 2008.
Rajat Patidar is the cynosure of all eyes after his heroic innings of an unbeaten 112 against LSG, which turned the match in favour of RCB. With their current form, RCB have a slight advantage over RR in tonight’s must-win game. Bangalore are searching for their first IPL trophy, while RR would like to come off with flying colours to become champion for a second time.
RCB replete with confidence
In fact, RCB are slowly but surely tightening the screw to improve their all-round game with the right combinations. The top order, comprising du Plessis, Kohli, and Patidar, has been functioning pretty smoothly. Patidar had to step down thrice on the ground to bat after the dismissal of an RCB opener without disturbing the scoreboard. In this situation, he consolidated his team’s batting.;
Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell have chipped in with some crucial runs, which helped the franchise to amass a mammoth total on the board. RCB’s lower-middle-order also seems to have a bit of a buffer. Virat Kohli has to contribute significantly with the bat today to take the team to the final.
The bowling unit has been perfectly executed. Harshal Patel, Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga are ready to pin down RR batters on a small total. The lethal Yorker of Hazlewood may play a devastating role in Qualifier 2.
RR are definitely hoping to eliminate RCB and then overpower GT to end their long draught, which has been going on since the first edition of IPL in 2008.
The Sanu Samson-led side has several match winners. Shimron Hetmyer is in cracking form, especially in slog overs. But his form in the second half is a worry for RR (77 runs in his last six innings).
However, the spin combination of Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin failed to take even a single wicket against GT. The spin duo has scalped three or more wickets in an innings on eight occasions in the 15th edition of the IPL. But both the experienced spinners will have to click against RCB, otherwise the exit door is open for the entire team.
Both sides played 26 times. RR won 11 and RCB dethroned RR on 13 occasions.
RCB conceded a record 137 sixes in this IPL season.
RR hit the maximum number of sixes – 123.
It is needless to say, both sides are finalising their plans, which is the last ditch to cross the road. It is expected to be a nail-biter for the second team’s entry into the IPL 2022 final.
