Mumbai Indians (MI) have been gaining momentum after defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) by a slender margin of 5 runs yesterday. GT have lost two consecutive matches, while MI came back strongly from a hopeless situation in yesterday’s match. MI are gradually gearing up to pose a stiff challenge to their opponents in their remaining matches.

GT have not cemented their place in the playoffs and MI’s playoffs chances have not fully diminished and are still alive. MI snatched victory from the jaws of GT. The five-time champion side kept their nerve, especially bowler Daniel Sams, who bowled the last over of the match, denied Miller (known as the killer) to score in the last two balls, and then skipper Rohit Sharma punched the air in delight as Mumbai won by 5 runs.

Saturday double-header

Two matches are on the cards today. In the first match, Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. RR currently sits third in the points table, while PBKS is seventh. Currently, all the 10 participating teams are in the race to move to the playoffs stage. Therefore, every match from here is expected to go to the wire.

The two successive losses by RR have dented their morale, but they have a slight edge over PBKS. Punjab Kings have been marred by inconsistency with bat and ball that led the team down in this edition of the IPL. Punjab have failed to notch up two successive victories this season. The franchise needs to carry forward their previous match form, in which they overpowered table-toppers GT by eight wickets.

Punjab Kings need to be careful if they lose today’s encounter. Then their chances of reaching the playoffs will be further broken. RR have the advantage of being a better prepared side, which will help them to go ahead and consolidate their position in the tournament.

LSG set to play against KKR

The second match of the day will be between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. Currently, LSG is comfortably positioned at second in the points table, while KKR is ranked eighth.

Under the captaincy of KL Rahul, LSG have done reasonably well. Besides KL Rahul’s consistency in batting, Quinton de Kock has been scoring runs on a regular basis in the middle order. In the bowling department, six of their bowlers have taken at least eight wickets. This makes LSG a difficult side to beat.

KKR are not able to take a decision on their playing eleven. They have brought five opening pairs and none of them have made a partnership of 50 runs together. In the bowling unit, some of the familiar faces are leaking runs at the crucial moments of the match, which has hurt KKR a lot this season.

LSG are making their debut in this edition of the IPL, so this will be the first time that both teams will face each other.

Both sides are looking to go ahead in tonight’s encounter and will try their best to get two crucial points. KKR have a chance to improve their position if they want to reach the playoffs stage.

Both encounters seem to be thrilling today. This Saturday, fans will have the chance to enjoy everything from the cricket fields.
