Rain is wreaking havoc in Gaurikund of Uttarakhand. The landslide occurred due to torrential rains late at night. Some people are feared to be buried under the debris.
Landslide in Gaurikund: In Rudraprayag, Gaurikund, the main stop of Kedarnath Yatra, caused havoc due to heavy rain late last night. Two shops have been damaged in the landslide due to heavy rains. Many people were sleeping in the shops at the time of the accident. Gaurikund’s sector officer told that many people have been buried under the debris. At the same time, according to the information received from SDRF, about 13 people have gone missing. These include Nepalese and local people. Due to the rain, the Mandakini river has come in spate, according to the information, boulders are continuously falling from the hill, due to which there is a problem in the rescue operation. Along with the district administration team, the disaster management team, SDRF and DDRF are also present on the spot. According to media reports, a landslide has occurred in front of the postal culvert due to heavy rains.
Rescue operation was started by NDRF and SDRF late in the night itself. However, due to rain, there is a problem in running the rescue operation. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rain has been predicted in Rudraprayag throughout the day. On the other hand, there is a forecast of light rain on August 5 and heavy rain again on August 6. Due to the rains, the Mandakini river is in full spate.
