New Delhi: The Indian currency, rupee, fell by 31 paisas to reach a record low against the US dollar during early trade on Monday. It now stands at 80.15, a record low.
At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee’s opening price was 80.10 against the dollar. The rupee fell by 31 paisas to 80.15.
The rupee’s closing value against the dollar on Friday was 79.84.
Early Asian trading saw the dollar index rise to a new two-decade high of 109.4, with the strength of the dollar pushing other significant currencies to new lows.
The situation was no better for the domestic equity market, as the Sensex was trading at 966.68 points, or 1.64% lower, at 57,867.19 on Monday, while the broader NSE Nifty fell 283.90 points, or 1.62%, to 17,275.00.
