Russia Train Accident: 70 Injured as Nine Carriages Overturn in Komi Region

A train accident in Russia’s Komi Republic left around 70 people injured when nine carriages derailed and overturned on Wednesday. Thankfully, no deaths have been reported.

What Happened
A passenger train derailed in Russia’s Komi region, causing nine carriages to overturn and injuring 70 passengers. The region’s governor, Vladimir Uyba, shared on Telegram that 20 of the injured are in serious condition. There were 215 passengers on the train.

Rescue and Investigation
Russia’s Investigative Committee confirmed that no one died in the accident near the town of Inta. Emergency services and police reported that injuries included fractures, bruises, cuts, and head trauma. Video clips online showed passengers being rescued through broken windows of the overturned carriages.

Two auxiliary trains and investigators were sent to evacuate passengers from the area, which is mostly forest and swamp. TASS news agency mentioned that recent floods might have eroded the railbed, causing the derailment.

Safety Checks
Officials are checking the safety of the rail line. The train was traveling from Vorkuta, a mining town above the Arctic Circle, to Novorossiysk, a port city on the Black Sea.
