Kyiv: Heavy attacks by Russia across Ukraine killed at least five civilians and wounded another 18 in the past day, the office of Ukraine’s president reported Wednesday, as Russia is trying to capture the eastern part of Ukraine.
Most of the deaths took place in Donetsk province, where pro-Russians had fought for several years.
The city of Bakhmut has been witnessing heavy shelling and bombardment. Here, Russia has been focusing on Donetsk to capture it fully.
Ukrainian soldiers have been fighting to regain two outlying villages despite the shelling.
Russian forces have been trying their best to control northeast Ukraine, where a regional governor, Oleg Syniehubov, accused Russian forces of trying to “terrorize civilians” in Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian military claimed Tuesday that they had used heavy missiles to destroy a Russian ammunition depot in occupied Nova Kakhovka, a city east of the Black Sea port of Kherson.
Ukraine has been receiving arms and ammunition from the US and other western nations in large quantities to fight in a prolonged fight against the mighty Russian forces.
A recent attack by Russia has killed several civilians. Since the beginning of the war, Russian troops have targeted civilians as well. They destroyed hospitals and other civilian places.
