The Luna-25 spacecraft encountered a catastrophic failure shortly after a critical maneuver as it was being positioned into its pre-landing orbit, before crashing into the Moon's surface.
Russia’s Luna-25 mission has crashed on the moon. Russian Space Agency Roscosmos has given this information. Significantly, a day before, there was a technical fault in the Luna-25 spacecraft.
Technical fault came in the morning
Russia’s space corporation Roscosmos said that Russia’s Luna-25 spacecraft collided with the moon after rotating in an uncontrolled orbit. Roscosmos said a day ago that an abnormal situation occurred while changing the orbit before landing, due to which Luna-25 could not change the orbit properly. The situation occurred when an attempt was made to raise the vehicle to a pre-landing orbit at 11:10 GMT on Saturday ahead of the planned touchdown for Monday.
The space agency said that experts were currently unable to deal with the sudden problem. They are continuously working on it. Earlier, the Russian agency had said that Luna would land on the lunar surface on August 21.
Roskosmos said, “On August 19, in accordance with the flight program of the Luna-25 spacecraft, it was planned to issue an impulse to form its pre-landing elliptical orbit. At about 14:57 Moscow time, communication with the Luna-25 spacecraft was interrupted. The measures taken on August 19 and 20 to search for the device and get in contact with it did not produce any results.”
Let us tell you that for the first time in 1976, almost five decades after the Luna-24 mission during the then Soviet Union, Luna-25 was sent into space on August 10. It has taken a more direct route to reach the Moon.
