Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said on Friday that Rahul Gandhi’s comment on Vinayak Savarkar may create a rift in the MVA coalition.
Raut complimented Rahul for the response it has been getting during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, but he further added that he should not visit Maharashtra and speak against Savarkar. Raut claimed that the Shiv Sena would never accept his views on Savarkar and that he had embarrassed his own party members.
Rahul Gandhi has been getting a positive response wherever he visited during his Yatra. But he got the maximum response in Maharashtra. Rahul and his caravan have been moving and getting in touch with people of all walks of life across the country to make people aware of issues such as inflation, unemployment, the threat to democracy, crime against women, and how the country is heading towards dictatorship. Why did he raise the issue of Savarkar?
Not to talk of Shiv Sena, but Maharashtra Congress leaders are also disappointed with Rahul’s remark against Savarkar. Rahul needs to go ahead and create history rather than highlight the past.
“Veer Savarkar was never the RSS’s or the BJP’s idol,” Raut added. They are doing politics in his name. A large number of people respect Veer Savarkar in Maharashtra and the country. We have been demanding Bharat Ratna for him, but is their love for Savarkar fake? “Why isn’t the BJP bestowing the Bharat Ratna to Savarkar?”
